Glasgow Girls Football Club achieved a great result for their activities off the park last night. Against stiff competition, they were awarded £10K from the Women’s Fund for Scotland, at a special live grant making event to re-launch the Fund, hosted by Sally Magnusson.
Not only will the money contribute to the annual running costs of the club minibus, the club will be able to secure premises creating a community hub, where they can deliver fitness and lifestyle tuition. They also can install changing and catering facilities extending their services to non-members making the hub self-financing.
Glasgow Girls Football Club, were one of six groups who had been invited to the event to showcase their work, demonstrating how they are making a difference to the lives of the women and girls they support. With a £25,000 funding pot available on the night the specially invited audience were then asked to vote on how the money should be split between them. No group went away empty handed, with all groups receiving at least £1K.
Jim Strathdee of Glasgow Girls Football Club said: “Winning this award means so much to us, we can now take the club to a new level. We will be able offer the girls a whole range of options, including careers advice, allowing them to reach their full potential.”
Beth Edberg, Chair of Women’s Fund for Scotland said “Last night’s event provided a much needed springboard for the future work of the Women’s Fund for Scotland. All the groups who presented are making a massive difference to the lives of the women they work with, and it was a difficult choice to decide who would make the biggest impact. Congratulations to Glasgow Girls FC, I am sure they will do great things with the award of £10K and we look forward to seeing their project develop.”
